Tsunayoshi “no good Tsuna” Sawada was lazy, bad at sports, bad at schoolwork, and just an all around worthless person. In fact the only reason he bothered to come to school at all is because his crush Kyoko went there. This all changed when a one year old hitman named Reborn appeared one day and killed him. Yes, killed him.

Lucky for Tsuna the bullet Reborn shot him with turned out to be the “Dying Will Bullet” a special type of projectile in that it brought the victim back to life to fulfill their dying wish. It is also interesting to note that Tsuna comes back as an extremely powerful, barely clothed, pupiless freak with a flame on his forehead. And so, clad only in a pair of boxers and screaming his lungs out, Tsuna promptly humiliated himself by publicly confessing his love to Kyoko.

After this mortifying incident Reborn cheerfully tell Tsuna that he is there to train Tsuna into an acceptable mafia boss. Turns out that the Vongola Famiglia has run out of candidates for the position of tenth generation boss and, as Tsuna is the great-great-great grandson of the first Vongola boss, who had moved to Japan a long time ago, he is the only choice left. Whod’a thunk it? Anyway a lazy boy like Tsuna would never dream of going through all the work it takes to become a mafia boss, but NEVER FEAR! Reborn is there to generally beat, explode, and shoot him into shape.

Tsuna is an extremely nice person who is quite easy to get along with. Due to his previous lonely “loser” status he is very grateful for any friends he makes and willing to guard them with his life. He even shows compassion for the villains who have hurt his friends and himself, forgiving them for their actions and attempting to help them. Unfortunately Tsuna is easily scared and would much rather apologize for something he hasn’t done and run than get into a confrontation. This gradually changes over time.

When it comes to fighting Tsuna often uses the X-gloves, which usually look like a pair of simple wool mittens with 27 on them, a pair of gloves made from the same material as the Dying Will Bullet. When Tsuna uses the X-gloves and mysterious pills given to him by his fathers student he enters the

Hyper Dying Will Mode. Unlike the screaming fool the Dying Will Bullet turns him into, when Tsuna goes into this mode he becomes much calmer and wiser, gains a “hyper” sense of intuition, and flames erupt from his hands and forehead. He becomes incredibly strong and is capable of extreme bursts of speed, to the point where he can practically fly.
